Historical Horror Romance... Yep, it's a thing.

Last year Ellay Branton, Kimberlie L. Faye and I answered a submission call for an anthology in the spirit of Gone with the Wind meets The Walking Dead. It was to be released right before the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in Atlanta and we were all giddy to find out our submissions had been accepted! My story A Piece of Him, which I wrote on a #WordsOnTHePage retreat at the Holbrooke Hotel in Grass Valley, Ca, is one of my very favorites and got me thinking about new possibilities.

When it was announced that RT 2018 would be in Reno, Nevada, practically my backyard, I began scheming with Ellay and Kimberlie about the three of us FINALLY doing a project together. The result of a chaotic two-hour video call became our new series titled The Banes of Lake's Crossing, an historical horror romance mashup set in what would eventually become Reno, Nevada! Here is an introduction to our series:

The Biggest Little City in the World was founded on a lie. That's what legends tell us anyhow, that the city called Reno, Nevada, was founded as a gambling haven for those who had been mining silver. But it goes deeper than that. It goes as deep as the lines from which that silver came.

In 1860, four brothers tunneled beneath the surface, looking to find the next Comstock Lode. They left their families behind in search of the valuable metals being brought forth from the Earth in order to do the Lord’s work. Their plan was to settle down near Virginia City and build a new church to save the souls of those seeking riches.

Lionel, William, Nathaniel, and Jonah Call went below ground on a chilly fall morning in 1860, and were never seen again. The official story was an explosion caused their brace work to collapse, trapping them all inside. Word reached their families a month later, and services were held to bless their souls and send them into the afterlife.

Legend has it that four men went down into the Earth as good, solid Christian men—and returned as something very different.

This first installment to our series will be released on Halloween, the second installment will be out in May 2018, just before RT, and then a third and final installment will release in October 2018. Each installment will have three stories set in this new world we've created. Each will have a Happily Ever After, or at least a Happily For Now. We are incredibly excited to share this new world with you!
